The National Investment Bank PLC (NIB) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its strategic and historical partnership with Nexans Kabelmetal Ghana Ltd, a relationship that spans several decades and remains critical to Ghana’s industrial ecosystem. The Managing Director of NIB, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, paid a working visit to the leadership of Nexans Kabelmetal, led by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Alexander Quarcoopome, to explore renewed collaboration aimed at strengthening Ghana’s industrial growth and job creation efforts. The meeting was hosted at Nexans’ operational premises in Tema. NIB’s connection to Nexans Kabelmetal is not merely transactional — the Bank has held a long-term shareholder interest in the company since 1978, playing a key role in its growth and evolution as a market leader in cable manufacturing. This longstanding relationship underscores NIB’s broader mission to be a partner in the industrial transformation of Ghana. Speaking during the engagement, Chief Dr. Zakaria emphasized that the visit marked more than a courtesy call — it represented the Bank’s renewed mandate to refocus on industrial financing as a core pillar of its business. He noted that NIB, having initially supported Ghana’s industrial sector from its inception, is now returning to its roots with stronger resolve and fresh capital backing. Dr. Zakaria explained that following high-level consultations with the President of the Republic in 2024, NIB had identified twelve key industrial players, including Nexans Kabelmetal, as strategic partners for deeper engagement. He highlighted NIB’s willingness not only to provide tailored financial services but also to offer business advisory, equity support, and governance enhancement in alignment with international best practices. He further urged Nexans to consider returning its deposits and transactional activities to NIB as part of a mutual strategy to consolidate resources and foster national industrial development. “We are not just a bank to our partners — we are co-owners, allies, and enablers of long-term success. NIB is here to provide stability and capacity through financial strength and strategic direction,” he emphasized. In response, Mr. Quarcoopome expressed appreciation for NIB’s consistency and acknowledged the Bank’s enduring role in the industrial landscape. He praised NIB’s workforce, noting the competence of its staff and the professionalism demonstrated over the years. The CEO also lauded the recapitalization effort led by Dr. Zakaria, describing it as a vote of confidence in NIB’s renewed strategic direction. Mr. Quarcoopome shared some of the challenges confronting Nexans, including unfair market competition and the proliferation of substandard imported cables. Chief Dr. Zakaria pledged to use his influence and traditional leadership platform to advocate on Nexans’ behalf, including initiating direct engagement with key government stakeholders such as the Minister for Energy and the Chief of Staff. The meeting ended on a positive and forward-looking note, with both parties pledging to work more closely and systematically to deepen the legacy relationship that has existed for over six decades. Both leaders acknowledged that this collaboration is not only in the interest of their respective institutions but also crucial for Ghana’s long-term industrialization and economic self-reliance.
