As part of its stakeholder engagement drive, the Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB), Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, paid a courtesy call on the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, and the leadership of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), to initiate a long-term strategic collaboration that supports the operational and financial well-being of the Service. During the high-level meeting, held at the GIS Headquarters, Chief Dr. Zakaria commended GIS for its unwavering commitment to national security and border management. He expressed appreciation for the long-standing banking relationship between NIB and GIS and assured the Comptroller-General of NIB’s renewed strength and commitment following the Bank’s full recapitalization by the Government of Ghana. “With a capital adequacy ratio now standing at 51%, NIB is well-positioned to return to its core mandate of supporting businesses, industry, and key state institutions such as the Ghana Immigration Service,” Chief Dr. Zakaria said. “We are offering enhanced value propositions, including scheme loans at competitive rates, dedicated relationship managers, and a 24-hour service culture that reflects the new NIB.” He also highlighted upcoming benefits for GIS staff and the Service as a whole, including: Improved interest rates on operational and investible accounts; strategic support for project financing; timely financial advisory services and a suite of over 45 new digital applications to improve service delivery and convenience among others. In response, CGI Mr. Amadu welcomed the new strategic direction of NIB and congratulated Chief Dr. Zakaria on his appointment. He emphasized the importance of transparency and service delivery to GIS personnel and requested regular statements of GIS staff provident fund accounts. He also called for better communication through SMS alerts and a nationwide sensitization campaign to educate their staff on the benefits of the provident fund. NIB’s team acknowledged these concerns and assured the GIS leadership of swift action. A member of the Bank’s delegation clarified that the delay in SMS alerts was due to data transmission lags from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, which were being addressed. Plans for a sensitization campaign had also been finalized and would be shared with the GIS team. He also expressed the Bank’s willingness to provide technical and financial support for the GIS Welfare Scheme and offered to connect the Service with NIB’s experience in managing welfare funds for the military and other security agencies. The Financial Controller of GIS also noted the need for guidance in the operationalization of their relatively new welfare scheme, to which NIB responded with an offer of comprehensive financial advisory services to help GIS optimize returns and ensure staff satisfaction. The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, with both institutions expressing commitment to building a robust and mutually beneficial relationship. NIB’s renewed capital strength, digital transformation, and tailored institutional banking solutions are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing the operational effectiveness and staff welfare of the Ghana Immigration Service. As NIB continues its strategic turnaround, engagements such as this reaffirm the Bank’s pledge to partner with critical national institutions and deliver value-driven financial services that support Ghana’s development goals.
