As part of its renewed institutional engagement strategy, the Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB), Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, met with the various agencies and authorities under the Ministry of Transport on Wednesday, 27th March 2025, to build stronger ties and encourage banking collaboration. This meeting followed an earlier strategic engagement with the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Nikpe Bukari, who had pledged to convene a broader session with all agencies under his ministry to explore deeper collaboration with the bank. True to that promise, the recent session provided a platform for NIB to present its financial solutions and explore areas of mutual interest with key institutions in the transport sector. The meeting brought together leadership from several agencies, including the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), Intercity STC Coaches Limited (STC), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Volta Lake Transport Company ((VLTC), Ghana Railway Company Limited, the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA). In his remarks, Chief Dr. Zakaria emphasized that NIB is undergoing a transformational “reset” agenda, which includes a full recapitalization backed by government support. The bank has consistently recorded monthly profits, signaling a clear turnaround in its financial performance. He underscored NIB’s renewed focus on delivering value to its partners through tailored financial products, improved customer experience, and operational excellence. Chief Dr. Zakaria highlighted the unique advantages of partnering with NIB, stressing the bank’s ability to offer competitive loan facilities, attractive staff welfare packages, innovative investment management solutions, and trade finance services. He made special mention of the NIB Excel Account, describing it as a premium offering designed to meet the dynamic needs of institutional clients through its rich features and flexibility. He further noted that as a wholly Ghanaian-owned development bank, NIB’s operations contribute directly to the local economy, with dividends remaining within the country to support national development. He reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to employing a predominantly Ghanaian workforce and supporting initiatives that create jobs across the economy. The agency heads welcomed the new NIB vision and commended the leadership for the bank’s turnaround. They expressed readiness to do business with NIB, citing the benefits of having a dependable, local banking partner. Some of the agencies also expressed interest in opening corporate accounts and accessing credit facilities to support their operational and infrastructure needs. This engagement signals the beginning of a strategic partnership between NIB and Ghana’s transport sector. It is expected to yield significant benefits including improved financial services for the agencies, enhanced operational efficiency, and a stronger alignment with the government’s broader development goals. NIB remains committed to providing bespoke banking solutions and acting as a dependable partner for national progress.
